A 3-phase, 4-pole star-connected synchronous motor has a resistance of 0.25 Ω/phase and a synchronous reactance of j 2.5 Ω/phase. The field is excited such that the open circuit voltage of the machine is 25 kV. The motor is synchronized to 22 kV mains. Calculate the maximum load on the motor (including rotational loss) before it could lose synchronism. What is the corresponding current and power factor?
