1. The following questions are about behavioural and attitudinal differences between members of the sample. For each question you must select the appropriate test of significance and report relevant SPSS output.
a) Is respondents' religious affiliation independent of their agreement with the idea that for some crimes the death penalty is appropriate? Which test did you use and was it statistically significant?
b) Respondents of which sex report a greater mean number of times they have had friends to their home in the past 12 months? Which test did you use and was it statistically significant?
c) Describe the association between the number of employees respondents supervise and their life satisfaction rating? Which test did you use and was it statistically significant?
d) Does the mean estimate of the number of workers out of every 100 who earns more than £40,000 per year differ across classes? Are the differences statistically significant? Please report which statistical test you used.
2. The following questions are about modelling the relationship between the number of hour respondents watch TV at the weekend, and their age.
a) What is the correlation between the two variables? Interpret your findings.
b) What is the magnitude of change in the expected number of hours spent watching TV at the weekend associated with a year's change in respondents' ages? What test did you use and is the result statistically significant?
