Company Research Identify a company in your area that you could be interested in working for Perhaps it's a company you know of personally or one you've found through some mention in your local newspaper. Using a search engine, such as Google, locate the company's website and then answer the following questions:

1. What is the company's main product or service?

2. How long has the company been in business?

3. Does the company post job openings on its website? If so, are there any that you might like to apply for? If not, does it list a contact for its human resources department?

4. If you were to send this company a cover letter and re´sume´, what type of job would you say you want?

5. What qualifications would you mention in your cover letter so the company is more likely to give you serious consideration?

6. Go back to the search engine to research whether any news or information exists about the company other than its own website. Seek out news stories, press releases, directory listings, and even consumer reviews. Is there anything you can reference in your cover letter to demonstrate your knowledge of the company?

7. Check social media. Does the company have a presence on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, or other similar channels? Can you learn anything from reading their postings?
