After a massive star undergoes a core collapse supernova event sometimes a neutron star is left over. Let us say that the core of a star has a mass of 5x1030 kg, a radius of 7x105 km and rotates about its axis (let's consider it a uniform solid sphere I = 2/5 mr2) at a rate of 1 time every 30 days. When the core collapses it will shrink to a radius of 7000 km. The shock of a supernova can also send the neutron star moving through space at high speeds. Let's say in this case the star is stationary before the collapse but the core (now a neutron star) is moving at a rate of 200 m/s after the collapse. What is the change in kinetic energy for the core from before the collapse to after?
