Task 1 Business Intelligence Framework
This assessment task requires you to develop a business intelligence framework for an organisation. The organisation may be an actual organisation or one that is a simulated business. Where a simulated business is utilized, the business profile will be provided by the Assessor. The business intelligence system to be implemented will, for the business and subject to its requirements, address implementation of a business intelligence system to perform a combination of functions including:
analytics
benchmarking
business performance management
data mining
online analytical processing
predictive analytics
reporting
text mining.
You will specifically need to:
research and critically analyse the business intelligence requirements
review, analyse and direct, business intelligence data manipulation
review, critically analyse and endorse, the proposed business intelligence solution architecture
initiate and contrast the tests required for the intelligence framework, for final acceptance.
1)Basis for the developed Framework
Provide a brief introduction regarding the selected business. What is the business strategy and goals?
You need to provide an introduction to the framework you are going to develop during the assessment using the following points:
Discuss the delivery information
Discuss the methodology of framework and its related components to be used in brief
Discuss the key activities that are planned in the SDLC
Discuss the documentation process for each phase involved
2) Initial Assessment
Business related assessment
Identify the business needs (identify the amount of time, cost, risks) and the impacts BI will have on the organization
IT Related Assessment
Evaluate the current infrastructure.
Are there enough tools to carry out BI?
Provide a detailed review of the available hardware, softwares, operating systems,etc

4) Requirements Gathering
Functional Requirements gathering:
Articulated business needs and requirements related to:
Types of reporting
Dashboards
KPIs
Presentation Displays
Documentation
Metadata Management Activities
Identification of data sources, data warehousing, BI solutions, ETL, etc
Non - functional requirements gathering:
It can include:
Policies, procedures, audit requirements related to BI (internal/external/related to consumers)
Need of infrastructure related to hardware, software, network components, server requirements, etc
5) Design Guidelines
Can make use of diagrams (BI framework diagram) to demonstrate the design guidelines (please explain the diagram in detail)
Translate the requirements into design specifications
Type of BI reporting
Types of data models designed to deploy the data mart
Type of schema used based on the needs for reporting and proposed BI solution
6) Construction and Deployment Guidelines
Explain how the above steps will be put to use with minimal refinements and modifications
The technical design specifications should be reviewed with all members of business and IT. Explain how this will be carried out
Explain when and how the project will be deployed
7) Framework to be developed
Discuss framework selected for the business in detail.
It should select, review and specify the components of a BI framework
It must include data-modelling techniques, determination of middleware including application and web servers, load balancing methods to be applied, and data repositories which may include:
component-repository management
digital repository
information repository
repository open-service interface definition
software repository.
8) Final Completed Framework (all the sections need to be addressed)
Finalisation of the physical data model (can provide pictoral representation)
Specification of an overall testing model (Successful and non-successful tests)
Specifications for testing security, integrity and user acceptance
