Case problem - Textbook Publishing

The purpose of this case is to provide students an opportunity to further develop their communication skills, whether it is oral and/or written. The case is to be solved using LINGO.

Requirements -

1. Complete the case described in the textbook.

2. Hand in a managerial report complete with an introduction, your analysis, recommendations and conclusions.

3. Even though we will not have time for groups to make an oral presentation, provide a set of PowerPoint presentation slides for the presentation along with the report.

Answer the following 2 questions -

(1) What is the best publication strategy that is which books should be published next year? What is the total number of books published?

(2) Would you recommend that Susan be moved off another project to allow her to work 12 more days? How about John or Monica? Management does not like any proposed solution that does not include at least one new book and so you may need to add some more constraint(s) when trying to answer this question.

Management science assignment - Apart from the powerpoint 15 slides there has to be a managerial report. Need to answer as per the question. The case (see case-W.pdf) file is from Chapter 7 of your textbook. The case is to be solved using LINGO. Requirements - Complete the case described in the textbook. Hand in a managerial report complete with an introduction, your analysis, recommendations and conclusions. Even though we will not have time for groups to make an oral presentation, provide a set of PowerPoint presentation slides for the presentation along with the report. There is no requirement for the number of pages as it is not a criterion for evaluating your report. Include the model(s) and figures/tables and calculations in the main body of the report. Put the LINGO outputs in the appendix. Do not answer questions 1, 2 and 3 in the case but answer the above 2 questions.

Organization - Cover page, table of contents, logical sectioning of report, charts & figures properly labeled, introduction, conclusion, appendix as applicable, page numbering, professional looking report (15). Assumptions & Model(s) - Listing of assumptions and justifying them if needed. Describing the model and not just giving the formula. (10). Question 1(25), Question 2 (25) and Power Point slides (15).
