The patient's dysphoria and irritability are palpable in the interview. There are some features of bipolar disorder (irritability, impulsivity), but not others (no pressure, only mild sleep disturbance, poor energy). The psychiatrist prescribes a mood stabilizer for an atypical bipolar condition. The patient's response to the medication is immediate and profound.
