Assignment: Accounting Term Project
Google Analytics Demo Account Report
For this exercise each student will learn by experimenting with data from the Google Merchandise Store. The Google Analytics (GA) demo account is a fully functional GA account that any Google user can access. It's a great way to look at real business data and experiment with Google Analytics features.
Information on how to get access to the GA demo site.
The data in the Google Analytics demo account is from the Google Merchandise Store, a real ecommerce store. The Google Merchandise Store sells Google-branded merchandise. The data in the account is typical of what you would see for an ecommerce website. It includes the following kinds of information:
1. Traffic source data: information about where website visitors originate. This includes data about organic traffic, paid search traffic, display traffic, etc.
2. Content data: information about the behavior of users on the site. This includes the URLs of pages that visitors look at, how they interact with content, etc.
3. Transactional data: information about the transactions that occur on the Google Merchandise Store website.
Because it shows actual data from an ecommerce website, the demo account is useful for exploring Google Analytics reports and features. Here are a few things you can do using the demo account:
1. View all standard reports populated with real data from the Google Merchandise Store
2. View AdWords and Search Console integration related data
3. Alter reports by adding filters and secondary dimensions, and by changing the report view
4. View predefined dashboards and segments imported from the Solutions Gallery
5. Compare audience, acquisition, behavior and conversion performance to a previous date range period
6. Segment the data using your own custom segments
7. Create your own dashboards, custom reports, and attribution models
For this practicum students must navigate the data for any one week in December 2019. Once the range is set you will answer the following questions by navigating GA and finding the right data points. The objective of this assignment is to get comfortable with the GA back end. Do not be afraid to click on all data points. If you are not familiar with a particular term or not sure how to find a particular term within the dashboard, use Google to find more information. There are tons of resources online as GA is well-documented.
For each of the following questions, provide a screen shot of the output along with what that metric means (e.g., do not just say 50% bounce rate. Indicate what it actually means for the company).
I. What is the average bounce rate for the entire website?
II. How many people are on the website right now (live data) and what source drove the most live visitors?
III. What information can you glean about new vs returning customers. What percentage of visitors are returning visitors to the site, as opposed to new visitors?
IV. What recommendation can you offer Google based on the metric "users by time of day"?
V. Which social media platform was most profitable (either in terms of revenue generation or conversions)?
