Homework: Approaches to Southern Studies- The Literary & Cultural Worlds of the American South
In this course, you will complete an annotated bibliography on a topic of your choosing that is related to Southern Disasters.
In this homework, you will need to research and identify specific sources related to the type of disaster you have chosen. Generally, sources should be scholarly in nature (think academic journals and research publications), but you may also require sources from reputable news organizations, magazines, or creative publications; additionally, you may include literary or creative sources that feature your type of disaster within the story. Your annotated bibliography must include 4-6 sources.
As part of the research process, you will identify others whose research or writing will help you understand, think more fully about, and explore your own topic. I am always available to think with you as you craft your argument and write your annotations. You will also have opportunities for feedback before and after this due date, and you can turn in as many versions of the homework as you'd like.
With each source, you must write an annotation that provides both a summary and an evaluation of your source. Please remember that while generative AI may be able to summarize sources, it cannot express a personal evaluation from a humanistic perspective, how a source has made you feel, or what impressions you have taken away from it, which is a fundamental aspect of writing, research, and knowledge production. As such, each annotation must include your personal impression of what you have learned and how the source has shaped your thinking about disaster in the American South. Questions that might help you prepare your annotations include:
1. What is this work about, or what topic is being addressed?
2. What is the argument the author is making? Get the instant assignment help.
3. How does this source relate to my topic, and what have I learned from this work?
4. How does this source address/connect to disasters within the American South?
5. How has this work informed/changed/challenged my thinking about my topic?
6. What sections or quotations struck me most from the work?
