Case Study: A study was conducted among teenagers to assess the relationship between loss of a parent before age 12 years and major depression in adolescent. 200 teenagers admitted in the local hospital with major depression were interviewed about loss of parent before age 12.

800 other teenagers who were admitted for musculoskeletal injuries. they were chosen to be of the same sex,age,race, and from the same neighbourhood as the teenagers with depression. These teenagers were interviewed about their experience of loss of a parent before age 12.

Among the 200 teenagers with major depression, 40 reported that they have lost a parent before age 12.

Among the other 800 teenagers, 100 reported that they had lost a parent before age 12.
