The Case of Brittany Maynard: "My Right to Die."

Ms. Maynard, aged 29, was married for one year when she was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer, discovered she had approximately six months to live, and did not want her family to watch her suffering with pain during the dying process. After a long discussion with her physicians, her husband, and other family members, she decided to move from California to Oregon to take advantage of the Death with Dignity Act. She opted for physician-assisted suicide (PAS), which is a procedure that would allow her to self-administer physician-prescribed barbiturate medications to facilitate her death. She made a public statement on the right of terminally ill people to end their suffering quickly. She emphasized that no one but she could determine when her suffering had become intolerable, when her life had become unlivable, and at what point her dignity had faded.
