To save energy, stack gas from a furnace is used to dry rice. A gas containing 4.73% (mol%) water is fed into the dryer, as is a rice feed containing 25% water with the balance rice (wt%). After drying, a wet gas containing 9.31% (mol%) water is partially released as waste, with the rest being recycled, and the rice is output with a final composition of only 5% water (wt%).
