Overview
The writings of Alexis de Tocqueville remain a respected lens of insight into Antebellum American political life and culture. His observations made in Democracy in America provide modernity with a period understanding of the role the central government played in the lives of American citizens. You are tasked with assessing this role by using only the primary source Tocqueville readings from this module. Such an exercise will help deepen your own understanding of his arguments and apply them to the modern political era.
