Essay Assessment - Task Description

The purpose of this assessment item is to assess your knowledge of the competitive advantage concept. For this assessment task you are required to write an essay (2000 words) addressing the following questions:

What is strategy and why is it important in businesses and not-for-profit organisations.

What challenges do organisations face in trying to develop and impliment a strategy?

Do you think strategy is still a relevant concept in the modern competitive environment? Use examples to support your answer.

This question should be answered in essay format, with an introduction, body, and conclusion. There is no requirement for a table of contents for this assignment, but page numbers must be included. The text for this assignment must be in a 12 point font with double line spacing. Examples are encouraged, and should be used to support your answers. A minimum of eight (8) academic references must be used.

Task Length: 1800 words and Use Harvard Reference style. A minimum of nine academic references must be used.

Essay Writing Instructions -

The purpose of an essay is for you to present a clear and concise argument that addresses the essay topic.

One of the keys to success is following the correct format/style.

An essay should have a logical structure:

The introduction - outlines the focus on structure of the essay.
The body - containing the main thrust of your argument.
The conclusion - offering a summary of key points a key closing message.

Make effective use of paragraphs - they are a critical tool in writing.

A paragraph should deal with a specific issue.

Make sure you answer the question (and all of the parts of the questions!!).

Note -Need to define what we mean by strategy and explain why it is important in each of these organisation types - business & not-for-profit. Need to discuss challenges in BOTH developing AND implementing a strategy (2 or 3 for each). Need to first define what we mean by a modern competitive environment. Use examples to support your answer.

Examples are encouraged, and should be used to support your answers. A minimum of eight (8) academic references must be used. Paragraph size can vary, but would normally we would have between 12 and 15 paragraphs for an essay of this length (THIS IS A GUIDE NOT A RULE!) 1 paragraph for the introduction and 1 for the conclusion, the remainder would be allocated to the body of your essay. Allowed 10% leeway on word-count. Must use a minimum of eight academic references. Must use Harvard referencing style. Presentation: 12point font, Double-line spacing, Page numbers, Heading are optional and Cover-page not required.
