Question: I) for the first article: The Vox article describes the phenomenon of fire 'fertilizations' from Australia, but also others that have been studied globally. What interested you about the article? (no wrong answers here, but be specific and detailed in your reflection).
II) for the second article: The Nature journal article is dense (The article is 20 pages long, and 15 of that is methods, references, and additional graphs) Please take a look at the article (you can skim through it, but at least just read the abstract and 1st 3 introductory paragraphs).
I included it because I want you all to have an appreciation and understanding of how much science goes into what you see in the news. Many of us hear things only on social media, or news outlets, and don't realize the depth of information and science behind it. Sometimes, unfortunately, what we hear on twitter or wherever is not based on science or is even sometimes purposely created as misinformation, and blatantly false. (For example, I'm sure you have seen or heard of a lot of misinformation about vaccines, masks, etc., that is making the pandemic worse..., instead of solving it).
Please reflect some on the role and influence of general public consumed media, vs. the on-the-ground science like this article. In your own life, what is something you've learned from real science that you once had a different perspective or misunderstanding about, from word of mouth or social media? Again, try to post early.
