The objective of this paper is to compare and contrast, "American Psycho", which was directed by Mary Harron, and "The Shining," which was directed by Stanley Kubrick, which are two great psychological horror films. The paper would aim to shed light on the various ways in which psychological darkness and the breakdown of the human psyche are portrayed in the horror genre by analyzing the narrative focus, themes, and filmmaking approach of the films. While both films deal with psychological darkness, they are different in terms of subgenres, narrative themes, settings, and atmospheres. Although "The Shining" focuses on isolation and supernatural terror, "American Psycho" uses a psychological thriller to criticize materialism and social norms. be sure that it's clear why you chose these films.
