Ruth Livingston is an 80-year-old female who is admitted to the orthopedic surgical unit from the emergency department because they were trip and fall accident at home. X-ray revealed a right femoral neck fracture. Mrs. Livingston has a history of osteoporosis. She is scheduled for an open reduction internal fixation ORIF tomorrow morning. The surgeon has requested a medical consult prior to surgery. Vital signs have been stable. Mrs. Livingston has 5 pounds bucks traction to her right leg. She has complained of moderate to severe pain which is currently being managed with IVP morphine. She was last medicated with a 2 mg morphine sulfate I VP at 9:15 PM. Mrs. Livingston has an IV of lactated ringers infusing at 75 ml/he.

Ruth Livingston will have hip replaced because of this fracture define arthroplasty .
