Abnormal Psychology Paper
Instructions
Pick any one psychological disorder in the DSM-5-TR.
Research the etiology and treatment of that one disorder by locating and reading at least five peer-reviewed journal articles. The journal articles should be research-focused (as opposed to editorials).
Write a short paper (5-7 pages) that answers the following questions:
1. What is research telling us about the etiology of the disorder?
2. What is research telling us about the best treatment(s) for the disorder?
3. What should be the focal points of future research on the disorder? Why do you think those particular focal points are so important?
The paper should include a cover page and reference list that do not count toward the 5-7 pages.
The entire submission - from the start of the cover page to the end of the reference list - should be in APA style.
The paper should be written with 12-point Times New Roman font. It should also be double- spaced with one-inch margins. Be sure to check for spelling and grammar.
Be sure to look at the grading rubric for the paper in Brightspace.
Tips:
Students often make the mistake of spending a significant portion of their paper describing the symptoms of the disorder they selected. Note that the point of the paper is to explore etiology and treatment. The diagnostic criteria should be briefly reviewed at the start of the paper in no more than one short paragraph.
The paper should be based on your research and not on personal experiences related to the disorder. Students sometimes share lengthy personal stories related to the diagnosis they selected, which is not what the instructions are asking you to do. The paper is an academic exercise and should be based on your research about the etiology and treatment of the disorder.
Finally, make sure you proofread your paper before submitting. A paper full of spelling and grammar errors comes across as sloppy. I do not expect perfection, but I do expect an earnest effort at professional writing.
