Last week we talked about George Floyd's death on May 25th. On June 2nd of that year, social media asked us to black out our Instagram and FB accounts in solidarity of the Black Lives Matter movement. Several people in my 'social media life' obliged. People that I know have absolutely no interest in learning about or tackling the racism that is inherent in our country and North America. After a few sporadic posts about racism, they went back to their everyday lives and in some cases, continued posting racist memes, material, etc.

For this week's current civil rights movement discussion question, answer the following questions; 'What is performative allyship? Is this a term that you are familiar with? If not, after learning the definition, is this something that you are guilty of (if you are not BIPOC)? If you are black, indigenous or a person of colour, how do you feel about performative allyship? How does it make you feel?'
