I. Find a mission statement on the Internet for any of the following: Sports Team, Sports Organization or League (Community Recreation Department, Professional sports organization, Youth sports organization/league, etc.), or Sports Business (Sports Marketing Firm, Sporting Goods Business, etc.).

II. Once you select a mission statement, please provide the URL web site (web link) for the organization's mission statement followed by the organization's mission statement onto the first page (i.e., after the Title page) of your MS Word document. Disregard Grading Rubric's statement "Provide selected Mission Statement in a separate word document with the URL link." All of your work will be submitted in a single MS Word document.

III. On Page 2 of your MS Word document, develop an essay (at least two (2) pages in length - double spaced, Times Roman 12 point font, not including the title and reference page) critiquing the mission statement you selected. Be certain to include at least two literary resources (e.g., academic journals, web site, our textbook) in your essay to support the information presented. In your critique, describe whether the mission statement you selected clearly answered the following five (5) questions addressed in our textbook (see Chapter 1; Leonard, 2008):

1. What is our program about?

2. What is our principal purpose?

3. What is our philosophy in running our program?

4. What is our operational environment?

5. What is the future of our operation?

IV. Lastly, explain how the mission statement you selected could be improved. Within this paper, present a separate section for Questions 1-5 and revised mission statement including your suggested improvements (i.e., as identified above).
