Assignment:
1. What is your opinion about this response about HIM workflow issues that affect the revenue cycle and if you would consider outsourcing some of the HIM functions? Why or why not?
2. Do you agree or disagree and why?
Claim submission is one of the processes in the revenue cycle, and the HIM workflow issue that affects the claim is the billing and the coding. Medical billing and coding come together when making claims to create the foundation of the healthcare revenue cycle. Poor billing results from improper coding, and this can have a negative financial impact on clinics.
Lower reimbursements will occur if a major procedure is incorrectly coded as less precise.
I would consider outsourcing for billing and coding. Medical practices gain a broader perspective when working with a team of outsourced medical billing specialists who devote their time to studying every market and industry area.
Medical Billing Outsourcing Increases Cash Flow; utilizing a medical billing service enables a constant, regular flow of claims being submitted and payments being received. By outsourcing, business decision-makers have access to data and information about what other medical specialists are doing and the outcomes they see from any location at any time. An in-house biller would not have the time to properly acquire and use all of this information, which is a full-time profession. Moreover, a good patient billing team will be able to spot places where revenue potential is underutilized and produce reports with recommendations for how to maximize those areas and minimize the gaps. This increases effectiveness.
Outsourcing Medical Billing improves Patient Satisfaction. All medical professionals want to be able to give their patients top-notch customer service. However, balancing the obligations of treating patients and dealing with financial concerns may be quite challenging.
The medical receptionist is in charge of welcoming patients and taking phone calls. Outsourcing can help the front office workers work more productively, efficiently, and with higher morale. Enhancing patient flow can also raise patient satisfaction.
Patients will be pleased since they always receive prompt, polite, and knowledgeable support with billing-related queries or problems.
