Read the articles "'Jig Jig to Dirty Ears'- White Elephants to Let" and "The Bittersweet Taste of Absinthe in Hemingway's 'Hills Like White Elephants.'" These two scholarly articles aren't easy. Literary scholarship, in general, isn't. The authors have to demonstrate familiarity not only with the text they're discussing, but also with what other scholars have said before. And the writing level is sophisticated and assumes an educated, well-informed audience.
