Assignment:
In this discussion, you will apply some of the concepts we've learned about tragedy to Oedipus Rex. Initial posts should contain no fewer than 250 words and should answer the following questions:
1. What is Oedipus's fatal or tragic ?aw? How do you know that? Give an example from the play that demonstrates Oedipus's tragic ?aw clearly for the reader.
2. How is dramatic irony used in this play? (Remember that dramatic irony refers to cases where the audience knows more about the plot or events unfolding than the actual characters in the story do. You, as the reader, can figure things out that Oedipus hasn't realized yet, for example.) Can you find an example of dramatic irony in action in the play? And what is the impact of this dramatic irony on you, as a reader? Did having a sense of what was going to happen in the plot diminish or enhance your appreciation for the play or the tragic aspects of Oedipus's life?
3. What role does the chorus play in this work? Why would ancient Greek playwrights add a chorus? How would the chorus impact people watching the play? How does it impact you, after reading the play? Make sure to provide at least one example specifically from the play showing what the chorus adds to the work or their impact on the audience.
