1. What is the R2P, and what criteria are used to judge whether the R2P should be invoked? Explain the difficulties in applying the R2P in a place like Libya or Syria.
2. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of using different mechanisms to hold human rights violators accountable after a war.
3. Explain both sides of the debate about whether economic, social, and cultural rights are valid human rights.
4. What is neoliberalism, and how is it supposed to improve the protection of human rights? What evidence is there to support or refute the links between globalization and human rights? EIHR
5. Describe the arguments for and against the notion that wealthy countries are obligated to give aid to poor countries. Then describe what makes foreign aid effective or ineffective, making reference to U.S. aid policies.
6. Throughout the semester, we've examined how major IR theories would explain human rights implementation (or lack thereof) across the globe. First, give concrete examples from topics we've discussed this semester of how realists, liberalists, and constructivists would explain current human rights practice. Then make an argument about which theory best explains the overall state of human rights today.
