Aim - The aim of the essay is to develop in students an ability to examine and write on economic issues using concepts and tools acquired in the course.
Essay Topics
1. First choose one country (you may choose any country) and explain the main trends of its housing market in recent years. Then use demand and supply analysis to examine the main factors which contributed to the observed trends.
2. Competition policy (law) has been adopted by more countries in the past 20 years. Why is government intervention in the form of completion policy necessary and what is the impact of such policy? Discuss with reference to the completion policy of one particular country (you may choose any country which has adopted a competition policy) where appropriate.
3. Discuss the various theories of unemployment. Which of these theories do you think explain best the European unemployment?
4. What is meant by stabilisation policy? Should the government conduct any stabilisation policy at all, be it a fiscal or a monetary stabilisation policy
Requirements
• Students should write an essay on one of the above topics.
• All essays MUST be a student's own work.
• The MAXIMUM word limit is 1200 words (excluding diagrams, tables, and bibliography).
• The number of references consulted by students will obviously be different, but the bibliography for each essay should include at least 10 references.
