Two figure skaters, each weighing 120 pounds, are performing an artistic routine in which they are allowed to use a bungee cord. Initially both skaters are moving in the same direction, with the lead skater P moving 5 ft/s and the trailing skater Q moving 3 ft/s. The bungee cord acts just like a coil extension spring with constant k = 4 lbf/ft and its unstretched length is L= 6 ft. At first the cord is loosely dangling but then becomes taut and goes into tension as soon as the skaters' outstretched arms become separated by L What is the length of the bungee cord just as the two skaters reach matching speed? Assume that the skaters are only coasting along the frictionless ice (i.e., they are not using blade edges for traction)
