Assignment 1 - Simulation in Health Care

Sometimes, challenges or issues in healthcare delivery are not prescriptive in nature and cannot be solved using pure optimization. Simulation provides healthcare administration leaders and decision makers a method to evaluate problems using probabilistic components. For example, a primary care queueing problem might logically follow a Poisson process and be modeled using simulation techniques.

For this Assignment, review the resources for this week, and examine the different simulation techniques highlighted. Reflect on how these simulation techniques might apply to specific challenges or issues for healthcare delivery. Then, complete the assigned problems for the Assignment.

3-pages. Note: You will be using Excel and Risk for this Assignment.

Assignment 2 - More Advanced Simulation in HealthCare

Simulation in health care often involves more than trivial skills. For example, modeling all outpatient clinic operations in a particular facility would probably involve the use of multiple probability distributions and many calculations. Verifying and validating the simulation requires even more technical prowess. Healthcare administration leaders and decision makers must have the knowledge, skill, and abilities to build and understand these simulations.

For this Assignment, review the resources for this week, and reflect on the advanced simulation techniques highlighted. Consider how these advanced simulation techniques might apply to specific simulation models in a health services organization, and then complete the problems assigned for the Assignment.

3-pages. Note: You will be using Excel and Risk for this Assignment.

Assignment 3 - K-Means Clustering

What is "k-means clustering," and how might it help healthcare administration leaders in their health services organization?

One of the more common methods of clustering is the use of k-means, where "k" is the number of clusters that are meant to describe the population of interest. For example, what if you were interested in segmenting patients based on satisfaction levels? K-means clustering could be used in the same way to help describe this given population.

This technique might assist leaders in determining what characteristics need to be considered in order to study crime and unemployment. In striving to address the problem, k-means clustering is an effective tool for leadership to consider.

For this Assignment, review the resources for this week, and examine the k-means clustering approach. Reflect on how you might apply this approach to an issue or challenge in a health services organization. Then, complete the problems for the Assignment.

3-pages. Note: You will need to complete a logistic regression, as well as a k-means cluster analysis, using SPSS.
