Help solidify this thesis statement: Using Erin I. Kelly's views on race and class injustice in societies from her paper "What is Justice?", I will argue that states should not have as much authority as they currently do to punish because punishment is always moral condemnation, even if we don't want it to be. Kelly argues that retributivism isn't true because punishment causes moral condemnation, and when states punish, they are committing moral condemnationation, which is why they shouldn't have authority. While it is true that punishment cannot be done without moral condemnation, it does not mean that retributivism is automatically off the table/doesn't exist.
