We make hundreds of daily decisions that seem irrelevant to the day's outcome. In truth, these decisions have predictable outcomes. We are used to the pattern of decisions made throughout our day. However, for those working on their recovery, these seemingly irrelevant decisions (SIDs) can have devastating effects on their sobriety. These triggers that change the client's behaviors are often unconscious and certainly, not intended. However, the outcome can lead to a relapse. Please read the "John" scenario in your text p. 292. Pretend that you are a Peer Recovery Specialist working with John and answer the following questions:

1. What seemingly irrelevant decision (SID) did John make that lead to a series of events that placed his sobriety at risk?

2. Using the Relapse Prevention Model, suggest some strategies that John can use to recover his sobriety.
