A systems survey is an extensive study of the current AIS. A systems survey's purpose is to gain an understanding, make initial evaluations, develop working relationships and collect data that identify user needs. The four strategies to determine AIS requirements are to ask users what they need, analyze external systems, examine existing systems, and create a prototype.
