This class has broadened my understanding of what is involved in a properly prepared negotiation. Most importantly I learned that to enter a negotiation you must be prepared and such preparation takes work and diligent research. On a personal level, understanding the negotiation process is helpful in dealing with my kids and in my marriage. Discussions or disagreements don't always have to be win-lose situations. Especially in family situations, you will benefit more if everyone wins or at least attempts to reach that goal. On a professional level, I've used negotiations quite often in resolving disputes for my clients. However, the business environment I'm in tends to lean toward win-lose, competition negotiation. I've been investigating other options in this field and groups of professionals that focus less on competitive negotiations and more on a collaborative win-win result. I plan to take some classes on this and to further more education in negotiation strategies.
