Impostor Syndrome
In the face of widespread job losses during the pandemic, many people have doubts that they could find another job and are overworking to reduce the chances they will lose their job. Workers who are second-guessing their skills might be experiencing impostor syndrome. When suffering from impostor syndrome, workers fear being exposed as a fraud, despite their accomplishments. Students transitioning to college or recently-promoted workers facing new challenges are more likely to experience imposter syndrome. Workers experiencing impostor syndrome might experience burnout, they could procrastinate or engage in negative behaviors that could impact their job performance or job satisfaction levels. People who work alone might be more vulnerable to impostor syndrome since they have less access to social cues that can be helpful in evaluating their own performance. Workers re-entering the workforce after an extended pandemic-caused hiatus might be prone to experience impostor syndrome.
