Max is an 11-year-old boy with type 1 diabetes, whom you are treating for a shin splints. His appointment is at 5pm. That afternoon he was at a birthday party. He ate two pieces of pizza as he knows he cannot have too much sugar. He injected extra short acting insulin to compensate for the pizza. Thirty minutes later he played soccer with his friends. He then left the party for a one hour athletics practice. After practice he arrives with his mother for PT. His mom reports that he cannot recall where he was earlier in the day and you notice that Max is combining words together and slurring her speech.
