Adolescent substance misuse and abuse behaviorIn preventing or ending substance (ab)use, it is important for educators to develop an understanding of the factors that influence use/abuse/nonuse. Apply the information from NIH: Preventing Drug Use among Children and Adolescents to help you frame your response as you consider the following questions:

1. What is going on when young people use/abuse substances? What are the values of young people as it relates to substance (ab)use/nonuse? What else might be going on with the behavior to use/abuse substances?

2. How might a young person feel when they are not doing this behavior?

3. What are the realities of a young person's experience as it relates to substance (ab)use/nonuse? How might a student feel when they are using a substance a lot? If the substance use stopped, how might they feel? What would be missing in their life?

4. What would be difficult about making the change?
