Question

Guinevere's case Guinevere is just 11 and a slim girl whose health has been good until a few weeks ago. Now she is fatigued and is eating huge meals as she is constantly hungry. Also, she is excessively thirsty and suffers from frequent urination (polyuria). She caught a nasty cold last week, but seems to be getting better. Today her mother noted that Guinevere's breath smelt fruity and then Guinevere began vomiting. Her mother became very alarmed and took Guinevere to visit the family doctor who is also concerned by these symptoms, so he requests a urine sample. The results from the urine dipstick tests indicate glycosuria and ketonuria and a fingerpick blood sample reveals hyperglycaemia.
