Question: Aristotle claims in Book III, Chapter 9 that the purpose of the city is to allowindividuals to live well, and that this is achieved through social relationships andfriendship. Locke insists that the purpose of the state is to protect individual rights to life,liberty, and property and allow individuals to pursue their own plans of life.
