Question: In Fig., the uniform magnetic field points out of the page. What is the direction of the magnetic force on a positive charge traveling through the filter towards the bending region? What is the direction of the electric force on a positive charge in this region? Suppose the charges are negative. Would they still pass through the filter unde-flected? What if you reversed their direction through the filter? Would they move from S3 to S1 without deflection?
