Context: One of the important core competencies of a health professions educator is to understand the learning theories and its implications in teaching & learning. She/he should have ability to apply the modern principles of learning derived from these theories while planning academic/educational events.
Task: You are working in medical school and have recently finished a session on Educational Psychology in your MHPE course. You have been asked by Director of medical education of your school to develop a paper on the practical use of these learning theories in a class room setup. Assignment 3- Memory and Learning
A 2nd year student in your medical college has complained that it is difficult for him to remember what he studies. He has asked for advice from you so that he can grasp long reading material and learn it to pass the exam.
Task :Please suggest strategies on the basis of the principles and approaches of cognitive psychology, how he can remember most of information.
Before you start doing the assignment, please read the material on cognitive psychology, information processing and the role of memory provided to you. Review the presentations given to you. Develop a sketch of the assignment and decide how do you plan to attempt the assignment.
