A young farmer is admitted to the hospital with a small wound on his left arm. The wound, an approximately 2 inch cut several millimeters deep occured three days ago when the farmer was working on his tractor. He cleaned the wound and covered it, but it quickly became infected and is now extremely painful and swollen. The farmer has a lowgrade fever and claims the pain around the wound is spreading across his arm. After two weeks of treatment, the skin has turned red, begun peeling off the farmers arm and the doctors have begun discussing amputation with him.
