Q1. What is an expatriate? If you were an expatriate that is also a manager, would you need to know about managing people that you know absolutely nothing about? How would you learn? Is it possible to be an expatriate in your own country? Please explain.

Q2. I visited Germany a few years ago and was ecstatic to see a Wal-Mart. Of course, I went inside to compare what was in the German Wal-Mart as opposed to the U.S. Everything was literally the same, but this was a problem with some of the customers. I lived in a village where buying in bulk (like what Wal-Mart offers) is not common. For instance, three large beef steaks in a package was unheard of in my village, because people shopped only once every two to three days, because they wanted fresh food. The small cultural difference led to the failure of Wal-Mart in this particular location in Germany.

Do a little background research and identify a business that may operate well in one country but fail in another because of cultural differences. Share your comparisons and contrasts and also provide supportive references.
