Part 1: What are the Current Issues?
Provide information about 2 separate issues
For each issue answer the following questions:
1. What is the issue and how does it impact children and families?
a. Name and describe the issue
b. Describe how the issue impacts children and families
i. Consider if the issue is political (laws, regulations and or policies need to be changed), economic (funding needs to be provided) or educational (change to educational policy, curriculum or access that will change how children are formally educated). Explain what category or categories you think the issue is related to and why.
ii. explain who the issue impacts (all children? Specific types of families? Teachers? Etc.)
iii. explain what the impact is on the population (what could happen if the issue does or does not change).
2. List and describe at least one organization, group or individual who are advocating for some kind of changes related to this issue.

b. Describe what the group hopes to change or accomplish, what they have done so far and what
Part 2: Reflection
Ireflect on what you have discovered and what issues are important to you
1. Describe your connection to advocacy- is this a new concept for you? Have you actively or passively advocated for an issue/idea before? How has your understanding of advocacy for young children and families changed through your reading? Did anything surprise you?
2. Describe why the issues you chose matter to you? (consider providing examples from your own experience) What other issues/efforts did you discover that are of particular importance to you and why do you think they matter?
3. Reflect on all you have discovered about advocacy and issues and describe what you could do next to continue to work towards becoming an effective supporter of important issues that influence the lives of children and families.
