After the pumping was stopped, the aquifer was allowed to recover. After 1 hour, well #1 was at 23.5 m; Well #2 was at 25.4 m; and Well #3 was at 5 m. Pier selected well #2 as the site for to develop a new municipal well.

After the most recent pump test by Fred Jones, it was recommended that the maximum flow from the well be reduced from 800 L/min to 400 L/min. However,
Shaggy was still operating the well at 800 L/min. See schematic.

a) Identify 2 problems if the well is continued to run at higher flow rates. Explain why these are problematic.

b) Identify 2 conditions that may have resulted in the reduction in flows. Explain why.
