Culture is often influenced by the media and images or messages that are transmitted throughout society. Within these images, stereotypes are often used to deliver a message. Understanding what a stereotype is and how they are applied within society allows students to better understand their culture.

In this discussion, answer the following questions:

What stereotypes can you find in many advertisements found in the media?

  • Is the stereotyping image positive or negative for the group?
  • How are the stereotypes used for marketing purposes?

Finally, how do these advertisements negatively impact youth and teenagers (those under 18 years of age)?

Your initial post must be a minimum "500 words "and provide at least two examples that you have viewed within the media/television or heard on the radio that support your answers.
