Discussion 1

Do you think it is important for Carter Cleaning Company to have a formal grievance process? Why or why not?

Yes, I feel Carter Cleaners should set up a Grievance process. It's important that employees have a chance to explain what happens to people with an open mind and not the manager above them. If employees don't feel they have a way that feels like they have representation they may tend to push for a union environment.

Based on what you know about the Carter Cleaning Company, outline the steps in what you think would be the ideal grievance process for this company.

The grievance process should be easy to use for the employees. I would implement a simple 1 or 2 step process that an employee could turn into a manager or Jen or her father. Both Manager and employee could explain in their opinion what happened. Jen and her father would then have the final decision on how to move forward.

In addition to the grievance process, can you think of anything else that Carter Cleaning Company might do to make sure that grievances and gripes like this one get expressed and also get heard by top management?

The grievance process is very important to any company, it can take care of many problems and give an employee a chance to make sure their thoughts on a subject can be heard. This can help a company do better with Safety, process issues and Operational issues.

Some topics that may come up.

Safety (an employee being forced to do what could be a unsafe act.)

Pay (employee could complain about a pay raise not being enough, or possible not getting a raise)

Employees may feel other employees get treated differently from management and don't think that fair.

If an employee was disciplined or let, go from their job.
