Literature review Hypothesis : A community's socioeconomic status affects racial profiling within the community.

Restricted to using only Criminal Justice Abstracts and SocINDEX with FULL TEXT.

Note that there are several components of a sound literature review:-offers an account of what has been published on a subject by accredited scholars and researchers.

Your purpose is to convey to your reader what knowledge and ideas have been established on a subject. The literature review must be defined by a guiding concept (e.g. your specified research interest ).It is not just a descriptive list of the material available, or a set of summaries disconnected from one another

NOTE: A key to constructing a literature review is the ability to scan the literature efficiently, using manual or computerized methods, to identify a set of use

ful articles and books, and the ability to apply principles of analysis to identify unbiased and valid studies. is clearly limited to just the literary sources that are directly connected to the research you're interested in conducting. When performing research in the social sciences, or any branch of it such as criminology, you'll rarely be in a position where your research topic hasn't been at least casually mentioned by other scholars. More often than not, some piece of research already performed is similar to that which you wish to execute.

Thus, there should be plenty of relevant articles for the topic you choose no matter what that topic is. Additionally, by showing your audience what previous research has already addressed your specific topic, the review also helps you carve out a space of relevance for your work in your own mind. shows your audience the distinction between previous research and the work you will perform. There's very little reason in sociology to duplicate another research objective verbatim. At the very least, you might employ the same techniques used in a previous study, but have different goals.

With that said, ask yourself these questions:

1.) How is my research hypothesis similar to the works in my literature review/how is it different?

2.) What important theories/concepts are discussed in detail?

3.) What thought/ideas aren't addressed in my literature review sources that my research hypothesis might?
