Case: Terror Management Theory (TMT) suggests that self-esteem helps to buffer the anxiety we feel over our own mortality. When people are reminded of their own mortality, they tend to defend their culture's view more strongly and to distrust "outsiders" who don't share their views. What implications does this have for the survival of societies in times of uncertainty? Can you see any parallels in your own society during the COVID pandemic?
