Discussion
In this discussion forum, I would like us to look at the larger picture of how humans are affecting the ecosystems on Earth. Yes, as you will watch in the videos in the lab today, humans are the major and primary contributors to global climate change and the acidification of the oceans. However, our impact on the Earth and its organisms does not stop there. You will also learn about how humans play a major role in habitat loss for the Earth's lifeforms and how that is leading to the sixth mass extinction of multicellular organisms on Earth. You will also hear about how humans are impacting the Earth's oceans by over-fishing and commercial travel. But even more than that, humans are affecting the planet. All of this impact will be evident on Earth for millions of years and as such, geologists and biologists have proposed naming our current geologic time period, the Anthropocene.
Question Rearseach what the Anthropocene is and what impacts humans have on earth that will leave a permanent record of our presence here on Earth, and how you are involved in making these impacts. In your discussion post, while I would like you to write about the Anthropocene in general, I would like you to primarily focus on the impacts you personally are making or will make in your lifetime. This discussion post should be a minimum of 250 words.
