What impact is the family's neighbourhood having on the family system? Janet and Jacob were granted joint custody. Most of the time, Brandon lives with Janet, but he has the freedom to visit and stay with his father on the other side of town any weekend he wants to. Janet needed to downsize her home after the divorce, and moved to a neighbourhood adjacent the one Brandon grew up in. He is enrolled in a new school called Rydel Elementary, with a slightly lower provincial test score than his previous school. The new neighbourhood's residents are mostly older families with lower incomes, so Brandon doesn't have a lot of children his age to interact with. When he's with his father, he is living in a two-bedroom apartment. Most of the kids in his father's neighbourhood attend Central Middle School, an inner-city school with poor provincial test scores. He has managed to make a couple of friends in each neighbourhood, however, none he feels especially close to. They are not the friends he left behind before his life changed. His new teachers treat him differently than other kids because he has learned at a different standard.
