Question: Written communication, just like all forms of communication, can tell your audience a lot about you.
Most of us engage in forms of written communication on a daily basis (e.g. text messaging, email). In your role as a student, it is safe to assume you have likely sent an email to a professor. It is important to consider the professional tone of your email before pressing the send button.
As an early childhood educator, you will be required to communicate with parents and the community in written form (e.g., daily observations, progress reports, program inquiries, etc.).
Communication is irreversible and email is a prime exampleof this. Becauseemail lacks tone, or immediate feedback from the reader it can be easily misinterpreted (recallthe concept of "noise"). Therefore, it is really important to ensure your email conveysthe message you intend beforepressing the sending. Reading your email out loud before sending can help you to hear how it could be interpreted/decoded.
