Global sustainability is one of the greatest challenges current business leaders must address. Many detrimental climate change impacts will persist for hundreds of years, significantly burdening future generations. A simplistic ethical solution to the long-term problem is that businesses and governments are obligated to do whatever is necessary to reverse the disturbing projections, and those businesses and nations that contributed the most to the problem bear the greatest burden in fixing it. But ethics must take into consideration the interests and impacts on all stakeholders. What if the solutions lead to massive layoffs, ruinous economies, and a worldwide depression? From a business and economics perspective, climate change solutions need to take into consideration costs associated with correcting the problem and constraints the solutions have on economic development."
